Communities In Schools (CIS) is the nation's largest nonprofit network dedicated to encouraging students to stay in school and prepare for life as envisioned by our national founder Bill Milliken. Since 1977 Communities In Schools has championed the connection of needed community services with schools to help millions of young people successfully learn, stay in school and prepare for life.
For two consecutive years, Worth Magazine has named Communities In Schools as one of the 100 top charities in the United States. This distinction was based upon the input of hundreds of philanthropy experts, extensive research on nonprofit programs, and the comparisons of which nonprofits are making the largest and most intelligent decisions with their public donations. Worth Magazine states that the top 100 are "doing the best, dollar for dollar to alleviate the problems children often face".
For Communities In Schools to succeed it takes total collaboration with schools, parents, the business community and human service organizations to provide a full range of services necessary for all children to reach their potential. Every child needs to feel valued, no matter what his or her economic or social background. Through the assistance of Communites In Schools, each youth is helped to achieve their highest potential by attaining the academic, social, emotional, and employment skills necessary to become a productive and contributing member of society.
